We’ve spent 30 years in the appliance retail business and have supplied countless families with washing machines in Sale, Altrincham and the rest of southern Greater Manchester. Since the advent of washing machines in the 1970s, the technology has come on phenomenally. We now have units that are controlled by smartphones, are ultra energy efficient and can perform a variety of specialist functions. This is a far cry from perhaps 40 years ago when washing machines started to become more accessible to the consumer market and were still very limited in what they could do.

None the less, we all still experience those stubborn stains which even today’s washing technology sometimes struggles to tackle. This has led to many tales circulating on how to get the best of your laundry some of which are amusing and bizarre to say the least!

Black Pepper Stops Colours Bleeding

Washing Machine Sale

It has been suggested that a spoonful of black pepper in a load can help stop colours from fading and bleeding. After many washes, clothes can lose that sense of brilliance and vibrancy as exposure to residual detergent can lightly bleach them. Some say that a spoonful of pepper adds an abrasive element to the wash and is corse enough to almost scrape any residual soap from the fabric. We have a selection of the finest washing machines in Sale and the surrounding areas including technology that tackles residual detergent issues by assessing the weight of the load and dispensing the optimal amount of detergent for it.

Remove Ink Stains With Milk & Vinegar

Stains from leaky biro pens and exploding cartridges are an annoying fact of life especially if you have school-aged children. The method instructs the use of 2 parts milk to 1 part vinegar. Pour the milk over the ink-stained garment making sure it covers the stain. Then add the vinegar to the mixture and leave for 12 hours. The chemical reaction between the two ingredients is said to lift the ink from the fabric before you can add it to the main wash.

Remove Grass Stains With Baking Soda & Lemon Juice

Grass stains are one of the most frustrating things to clean. The great weather over the summer of 2018 led many of us to parks where we played football and sat on lush patches of grass. Unfortunately, this also resulted in thousands of grass-stained clothes. Many people have sworn by baking soda as a grass stain remover. The method is to work 4tbsp of baking soda into the affected fabric and then apply a solution comprising ¼ cup water and ¼ cup of lemon juice. The chemical reaction (much like milk and vinegar) is said to unseat the stains. If you are slightly sceptical of this homemade remedy then we can help. We are currently stocking the Hotpoint WMTF722HUK which boasts an incredible 16 different wash types including enhanced stain removal capability.
