This summers weather was a rollercoaster to say the least. With temperatures soaring into the thirties and then dropping off to the late teens in a matter of days we are all left struggling to adjust. Well, if we are struggling you can only imagine what this does to our domestic appliances.

The fridges sat within your kitchen is one of those appliances which you rely on a lot more than you may expect. If this were to break down we would be put in a sticky situation. After a long summer of hot weather are you sure your fridge is in good health?

In this blog, we will be taking you through a couple of ways in which your fridge can be affected during these warmer months of the year.

Increased Condensation Throughout

Have you noticed some excess water building up on the walls of your fridge? If so, you’re not alone. This is easily one of the most common issues you will find in the summer, in some cases, this can occur all year round. The key disadvantage of this excess condensation is that your food ingredients can become damp, therefore running the texture and leaving you with no choice but to simply throw these items in the bin. The weekly shop is already expensive enough without having to see your beloved food going to waste.

The best way of avoiding this issue is to make sure that you close the door as quickly as possible after use. This avoids the warm air entering your fridge which can then lead to consideration forming.

Inconvenient Blockages

Coming hand and hand with increased condensation are blockages. If there is more water within the fridge it leads to all the grit and grease from the shelf being washed into the drainage hole. Due to the additional demand on this drainage hole, you can find that blockages become a lot more common during the summer months. If you have a blockage form you find that the fridge becomes overrun with water which can ruin food. Even worse this water can leak out of the fridge and cause damage to your kitchen flooring.

The best way to prevent blockages is to complete regular maintenance checks. Identify where the blockage hole is within your fridge and then regularly clean it out. This promotes drainage within the fridge and prevents spills from building up and developing into the mould. The best tool for cleaning the blockage hole is a simple cotton bud.

Temperature Control

The warm weather can do a lot more than cause a little build-up of water within your fridge. Many fridges struggle with this sudden increase in the temperature leading to the internal temperature rising to a dangerous level. If your fridge rises more than a couple of degrees this can lead to the entire contents of your fridge being at risk of going off. Especially meat as it can be the most dangerous if consumed.

On the hottest days of summer make sure that you give your fridge a quick check to make sure that the temperature hasn’t risen dramatically. Another great way to maintain temperature is to keep yourself from opening the door to regally., If you need food, take it our quickly, it's as simple as that.

We hope that these fridge tips have helped resolve the issues you are facing this summer.  If you are continuing to see any of these issues the next step would be to completely replace the fridge.
